Culture
You will find numerous tourist attractions in the city of Haarlem and the Kennemerland area. The main museums are:
Frans Hals museum, with paintings from the 17th century masters
Teylers Museum, temporary exhibitions in a fantastic building (candidate UNESCO World Heritage)
Dolhuys, the new and highly interactive museum for the history of psychiatry.
Impressive is the Corrie ten Boomhuis, the watchshop in the Barteljorisstraat that was a hide out in WW II (limited opening hours, interesting private tours).
On the Grote Markt you will find the characteristic landmark of the St Bavo church with the famous Christian Muller organ. Don't miss out on the frequent free organ and choir concerts.
In the old city center you will also find the typical inner courtyards from times long gone by. Ask our reception staff for a copy of the Hidden Green Oasises itinerary.
Outside the city is the Cruquius Museum, with the old Cruquius pumping station that was saved for history just in time, and here you can follow the full development of water management in the area.
More of the famous Dutch industrial estate can be seen at the Adriaan windmilll, a fully restored and operating windmill on a beautiful location at Spaarne river.
Very interesting as well is the industrial heritage as showed at Zaanse Schans: more wind- and watermills and tradional factories still in function today.
